History:
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, JNTU
College of Engineering, Kakinada was established in the year 1990. The PGDCA
Program was initiated in the year 1987 - 1988 and was the first Computer
Oriented course to be offered. This course was initially started in the ECE
Department. In the year 1989 - 1990, B.Tech. Program in Computer Science and
Engineering was started and was the second computer-related program, which
was also offered from the ECE Department for that year only. Later, after the
establishment of CSE Department seperately in 1990, it continued to offer
the above-mentioned two courses. From 1996, M.C.A. program was started, from
2000-2001 M.Tech. (Daytime) and from 2001-2002, M.Tech.(Part-time) programs
were started.

The admissions into B.Tech. is through Common Entrance
Test conducted by DTE (i.e. EAMCET). From 1996
onwards, M.C.A., a self financed program, was initiated in the place of the PGDCA program. The admissions are through a state level common entrance test
(ICET). From 2000-2001 academic year, M.Tech. in Computer Science is being
offered. From 2001-2002, M.Tech. in Computer Science on part-time is also
being offered. Admissions to both of these programs are through and entrance
test conducted by JNTU,
Hyderabad.
The Academic Programmes for B.Tech., M.Tech. and M.C.A. are
being updated/modified every two/three years to meet the needs of the
industry. The Board of Studies in CSE consists of 2 eminent professors from
other universities and 2 well known industrialists apart from 4 professors
within our institute. Thus, our academic programs are more need based rather
than completely theory-oriented.

-
A unique distinction of the Department is that
Dr. N.Chalamaiah, HOD,
has been a visiting faculty in
North Dakota State University,
Fargo, USA for one month and George Mason
University, USA for 25 days on collaborative research work in Computer
Networks and Label Switching Protocols.
-
Dr. N. Chalamaiah also
attended a training program on
Multimedia Tools for Instructional Design sponsored by Center for International Cooperation for Computerization (CICC), Japan
and
